What we're looking for
- A classic: any book published at least fifty years ago.
- 700 to 1,000 words.
- Your response, not a summary. Tell us what the book did to you, what surprised you, what you'd say to someone about to read it. Assume your reader knows the story, or doesn't need to.
- Spoilers are fine if you warn us at the top.
- Your own writing, not published anywhere else.
- Written by you, not by AI. We don't publish reviews written or rewritten with AI tools; we want to hear your voice.
As the review's author, you keep the copyright. By sending a review you agree that Longhand may publish it on this site and share it on social media. We may make small edits for clarity and will check any larger changes with you first. We'll write back either way, usually within two weeks.
